One Liquor License?

“Ocean City will never slide down the slippery slope of BYOB leading to bars on every corner. The state regulates the number of liquor licenses permitted per municipality based on a town’s year-round population. Ocean City’s 11,701 residents would entitle it to one liquor license.” (Sources: Shore News Today, ‘Pro-BYOB group holds first informational session’, Cindy Nevit)

“A municipality may issue one consumption license for every 3,000 of its population. As to distribution licenses, which allow the sale of alcohol for off premise consumption, a municipality may issue one license for every 7,500 of its population”  (Source: State of New Jersey, Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, http://www.state.nj.us/lps/abc/faqs.html#13)

So let’s do some math…

11,701 divided by 3,000 = 3.9 so we could have at least 3 consumption license

11,701 divided by 7,500 = 1.5 so we could have at least 1 distribution licenses
